Who am I? I was born in California in 1980 but moved to New York State when I was only 10 months old. I grew up in Newfield, NY, a small town just outside of Ithaca. From a young age I was always interested in how things worked, and would take apart anything I could get, to see what made it tick. As soon as I was old enough, I got my hands on a small engine and started building a go cart. This was when the addiction started. From that point on I was fascinated by engines, and wanted to learn as much as I could about them. As a teenager I was forced to work on my own cars. Our family did not have a lot of money so I drove what I could get. My dad was not a mechanic, so he would give me a book on fixing your own cars, and leave me to it. After I graduated High School, I worked for a year at a little mom and pop lawn mower shop as a mechanic. This was my first experience working with small engines at a professional level. I learned a lot, but wasn't sure it was what I wanted to do with my life. So I moved to Rochester to attend MCC. To make some extra money I started working at Chase Pitkin. Shortly after working the hardware department, I found out they had a small engine shop. I quickly put in an application and was hired right away. Working at the small engine shop was great, and I spent a few years there. All good things must come to and end, and we all know what happened to Chase Pitkin, they went out of business. Enter Ontrac Equipment, the largest John Deere Dealer in the area, and they were hiring! I spent 6 years as a mechanic working on all the John Deere models, from Chain Saws to the large compact tractors. I worked my way up to head technician. However history repeated it self, and Ontrac was purchased by an other company. Many people were laid off, and I was one of them.
So What now? I had always had it in the back of my mind that I wanted to own my own business. So I decided to take the plunge. I purchased a Van, got set up with parts vendors, advertising companies, and website designers. And in 2010 West Side Mobile Service was open for business. It has been a fun ride, and I have enjoyed meeting everyone I have done business with. I hope to continue running this business for a long time to come. Maybe I will see you some time as well!
